Summer Vacation 2012- Part 1

California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. That's where the McKee's went this summer for vacation and it was a blast.

First Stop: Los Angeles, CA.

Hollywood was our first tourist attraction. The hand prints were a must. Most popular by far was Michael Jackson's hand prints.

Grauman's Chinese Theater and Kodak Theater

Hollywood sign of course
Then onto a little shopping. Emphasis on the little, we window shopped

Malibu had gorgeous beaches and Pepperdine University has a beautiful campus and views. Here we are sitting on Pepperdine's campus lawn. I would not have studied if I went here.

And of course the whole reason this trip was inspired was to see by best friend, Julie! She got to spend a whole day with us and we had a blast. She deserves her own collage of pictures.

 We love you, Julie!

Many more pictures to come...

Moving Out and Moving In

...TO OUR NEW HOUSE!

Jesse and I are so excited to get away from the kids above our apartment running/jumping and the loud music playing neighbors next door.

More importantly we are excited to have a place to call home again.

I guess the right thing to say is, home is wherever I am with Jesse (and it is), but let's face it, it's nice not to have to share walls with people.

Here's a sneak peek:

This is the first house we have both agreed upon in 10+ months, so this is a huge accomplishment.

The house is already in perfect condition and it's cool because we actually know the previous owners, so we know that took great care of the house.

All  we need to do now is unpack and decorate to make it feel like home.

Weekend Baby Shower

My nephew, baby Jack, arrives at the end of July, which is coming up fast! So that means it was baby shower time for Lindsey and Ty and I am so thankful I was able to go. It was so great to see my family and a few friends.

The shower itself was super cute, see for yourself...

Jack, I can't wait to meet you! Love, Aunt Heather

In Loving Memory

Loretta Bo Fults....Grandma Retta
January 31, 1935- March 28, 2012

I have dreaded writing this post, but I so want my memories of my grandma written down so I will always have this to look back on.

My grandma was many things: kind, loving, beautiful and a strong Christian woman, among many other things, but it's the small things that I remember about her that made her so special.

All of the cousins got together and wrote down the little things that made our grandma so special to us. This list won't make sense to most, but to us they mean everything:

- She always had green grapes in a bowl on the counter.
- We wern't allowed to eat potoato chips from the bag so she made us put them in a bowl. The brand was always Layes.
- Playing in her jewerly box. One time she let me pick out a peice to keep, which was rare because it was play jewlery only to be left at grandmas house. I still have that peice of jewelry and will cherish it always.
- Grandma always recorded soap operas (just like I remember my great grandma). One of her shows was "As the World Turns" or as my granddad called it "As the World Swirms."
- Grandma drinking diet coke in a cup, with a folder paper towl and a rubber band.
- The toy closet and her other various "goodie" closets that always seemed to be bursting with crafts.
- Her snoring and granddad always taking a paper towl or father to tickle her nose to wake her up, I don't recal her thinking it was funny.
- Playing cards, dominios and my favorite, Whahoo.
- Grandma would always say "Well, Connie" in shock and frustation as my granddad played the winnng domino and he would respond "Well, Loretta?" in equal confusion. This was always the case.
- Her Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas ham.
- Her strawberry jello dessert with sour cream, or as my brother, Trace, called it, "Loretta's Delight."
- Picking cherries and then having to pit them.
- Her cherry cobbler.
- Oh and how can I forget black olives at every meal.

Despite her passing, it was wonderful to have all the family come and be together.

My cousin, Eveleena, come from Florida to be there. Growing up we were inseperable in the summer when she and her brother, Alex, would visit. People thought we were twins. Besides the same hair color, I don't see it, but I always took it as a compliment.

Great grandkids, minus Nathan...
Oh, there he is...He did not want to be apart of the group picture. At the burial site. It was also special that all of us grandkids were able to be pall bearers. Five girls and three guys. I was nervous, but it was a special moment to get to share with my siblings and cousins.
Of course the family found some time to have a little fun and enjoy each others company. Dad taking a shot, haven't seen that in a while :)

A week early, but for old times sake the great grandkid cousins wanted to hunt Easter eggs. This is the best shot I could get with them all in the picture.

Then of course there was a trip to the "Red Rock." This rock obtains the intials of most everyone in our family. Jesse got to engrave his name and I had to add an "M" onto mine. The "M" is a little off, but I know what it stands for, so good enough.
The kids looking at a frog.

And lastly, I leave you with the most recent picture I could find of me and my grandma. We all look our best!

Love you, Grandma. We all miss you, but we will meet again.

Crisis Averted

Hair crisis that is.

Two hair cuts...

Inches upon inches removed...

Three washes...

Three stylings...

Many tears...

and $$$ later, my hair was some what workable again.

What a Saturday.

My long, beautiful hair was a blank canvas that I had been growing out in order to do something amazing with it, and then I found my inspiration on Pinterest.

My inspiration...

...complete failure on my hair. I did not get a before and after, but trust me when I say hair cut #1 was BAD. My husband said, "It looks like a mullet!" He quickly followed it up with "it's not that bad." Sadly, he was right.

The only fix was to shell out the big bucks and go to a more experienced hair dresser. Oh and as a side note, in Houston, you can't get a hair cut any where for less than $50 (which I find outrageous), so having an "experienced" hairdressers = $$$. In the end, it was worth it.

A decent view of the recovered hair.

If only I had started with the experienced hairdresser, I think I could have had my inspired hair look.If you have ever had a bad hair cut experience, please share to make me feel better : )

Rocket Ships and Sandy Beaches

When my parents come to visit, we have a good ole time...

NASA- on the trolly

That's one big rocket!

After NASA we traveled down to the beach in Galveston. It was a little cold and rainy, but we still wanted to see the ocean.

The sky finally cleared up and the sun peeked out.

Finally, I will leave you with a peaceful photo. Ahh, makes me wish it was summer.

San Antone

Thank goodness for birthdays! For Jesse's bday weekend we and some friends went to San Antonio, TX. I love any excuse to travel and see something different.

I had been before, but I hadn't gone since I was in high school, so it was fun to revisit.

The Alamo.

The River Walk was packed. Apparently is was Mardi Gras weekend, a big rodeo was in town and a cheerleading competition was going on. Go figure.

Went to eat at a fun Mexican restaurant. Brittany is the only one curiously looking at our camera.

Us and our lovely friends, James and Brittany.

Hung out at the Mexican Farmers Market. Where I got some wonderful Mexican vanilla, so pumped to bake with it...and then eat the baked goods :)

Market stuff.

Jesse's.

Just a cool old building, but not as cool as the Alamo.

And finally we make it back to Houston just in time for my first NBA game. Watching the Houston Rockets. We won!
